A.P.P.L.E. (Enfield Elementary only)
Chair: Laurie Cipolla
Absent Pupil Phone Line at Enfield. The Apple phone line acts as an early warning system if your child has not arrived at school. Parents must call Enfield to report students late or absent. The Apple volunteer will come to school at approximately 9:30 am and get the Absentee list from the school secretary. The volunteer then checks the apple answering machine and compares the list to the messages, then Calling any parents that may have forgotten to call the phone line. It is the HSP's goal each year to have a volunteer for each school day. It only takes about 10-20 minutes and volunteers can offer to do this once a week, month, or only once a year. You may bring younger children to school if necessary. Phone calls to help schedule volunteers can be done at home.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE (Erdenheim Elementary only)
Co-Chairs: Cindy Hamilton and Laura Bauder
The Artist in Residence is a program offered in the Erdenheim School only. Every other year the committee chooses a local artist (visual or performing) to come to the school for one week and work with the students to create a installation or performing arts presentation. Committees work closely with the schools art teacher to determine the best fit for the students. The selection of the artist is in the fall and the activity happens in the springtime.
BOOK FAIR- FALL/SPRING
Co-Chair: MJ DeCarlo
Twice a year the HSP sponsors a Book Fair. Children are able to shop after lunch and after school for their favorite books. The book fair helps promote reading. Volunteers are needed to plan, organize, and staff this very popular event.
BOOK SWAP
Chair: Need one for each school!
Before school lets out for summer this committee organized a couple mornings where kids can trade old books for new.
BULLETIN BOARDS
Co-Chair: Hillary Chybinski
At the beginning of each month, this committee is responsible for updating the bulletin board at both Enfield and Erdenheim with the next month's activities. Can also include newspaper clippings and photographs.
CARNIVAL/MAYFAIR
Co-Chair: Kristyn Roessler and Laurie Cipolla
The Annual Spring Carnival in April is our largest fundraiser. Volunteers can work on one of the many planning committees or just volunteer to help out that day. It takes about 150-200 volunteers to staff the Carnival. The committee starts in October to plan this awesome event. We need people to work on different committees from Raffle donations to Games. A few hours throughout the year or the day of the Carnival goes a long way. Planning can be done at home and monthly night meetings taking place October through April.
COLOR DAY
Co-Chairs: Need one for each school!
Color Day is held in May. All students compete in outdoor activities, such as relay races and egg tosses. Children wear their school colors and some may even dye their hair blue or silver. Volunteers can help out by supplying water, freeze pops and cups or they can help that day by working at water stations or getting equipment together.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Co-Chairs: Julie Ebner and Mary Lou Rittenhouse
We have a Halloween candy drive when children can bring in leftover candy that gets donated to local food banks. We have a giving tree during the holiday season; children bring in change that is used to purchase a grocery gift certificate to be given to a family in need at our own school. In the past we have had an Alex's Lemonade Stand and this year we collected gently used children's items (clothing, books, toys, etc.) for Cradles to Crayons. Volunteers work together to help decide which charity to support and then spend time collecting what is brought into school and taking it to the designated place.
DAD'S COMMITTEE
Chair: Need one for each school!
This committee was formed to promote Dads' involvement within our school. Each year the Dad's committee organizes Rise and Shine at Erdenheim and Breakfast Buddies. Each student has the opportunity to bring a mom or dad to school to enjoy breakfast. Volunteers are needed to help organize, and assist the morning of the breakfast. This committee also tries to promote fathers' involvement within the school and helps to set up the carnival.
DIRECTORY
Chair: Susan Kantor-Pugliese and Joann Hastings
This committee is responsible for collating, keying in, and compiling all students information, as provided from the main office. It is then put to print as our annual directory, and is then distributed to the entire HSP population.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Co-Chairs: Nancy McDonald and Donna Bailey
Volunteers need to help coordinate how we should fund raise this year. In the past we have had a wrapping paper sale. People on this committee will need to organize the orders, submit them to the outside vendor and assist with the sorting and distribution of purchased items. This committee monitors the bulleted items below:
- BOX TOPS, TARGET AND ESCRIP
Enfield Chair:
Erdenheim Chair:
This committee collects all the Box Tops that are sent into school throughout the school year. Duties
would include adding receipts and packaging labels to be sent to the
Manufacturers for cash rebates and free items for our school. Most of the work for this committee can be done at home. It is a great way for the HSP to raise funds without fundraising.
Co-Chairs: Need one for each school!
Co-Chairs: Stacie Perkins
Chair: Katie Smith
Market Day is a on-going fundraiser for the HSP. Parents order food online and pick-up the prepared food at the school.
Chair: Kim Briggs
Goblin Gala
Co-Chairs: Nancy McDonald (grades 4-5) and LAC02@comcast.net (grades K-3)
Goblin Gala is a large fund and hair-raising event for all students. Volunteers need to help coordinate and run a Halloween event at both schools. This year there will be two events K-2 and 3-5 grades.
LANDSCAPING (Enfield Elementary only)
Chair:
We have several gardens that the HSP helps maintain. Volunteers plant, weed and help maintain our gardens spring, summer, and fall. In the past, the Beautification committee members created various programs to include the students in special plantings and educational projects. The gardens can be attended to at anytime, not just during school hours, and volunteers can determine how much time and how often they help.
MINI-GRANTS
Chair: Kris Casabon
Teachers have the opportunity to submit proposals for small cash grants that will further expand what they do with their district alloted school budgets. Sometimes teachers will team together to request funds that will support the whole grade or they can submit as individuals. Volunteers read the submissions and assess the value and allot the funds.
PUBLISHING CENTER- (Erdenheim Elementary only)
Co-Chairs: Jennifer Singer
Your third grader will have the opportunity to become published author/illustrators. The children write and illustrate their own story and then have them edited, typeset and bound the committee. In the spring the young authors are invited to read their books to their fellow students at "Young Authors Night." This committee meets several times a year.
SPECIAL PERSON'S DAY (Enfield Elementary only)
Chair: Jeanine DePaul-Nelson
This is an event for our First Graders. It allows them to bring a special person to school to participate in classroom activities, have snacks, and then end their day with a special entertainment assembly just for them. Volunteers are needed to plan the event, set up the entertainment (we often have used a magician), and purchase any supplies that are needed for the day. Other volunteers are needed to help on the day of the event. This day is usually in the Spring.
SPIRIT WEAR
Chair:
To help celebrate school spirit, Enfield has spirit days throughout the school year. Children are encouraged to show their school pride by wearing Blue or Steel Spirit wear. The Committee organizes a sale twice a year. Volunteers are needed to collect orders, submit them to the vendors, and distribute the clothing to the students. Sales are usually in the Fall and the Spring.
STAR OF THE WEEK (Enfield Elementary only)
Chair: Stephanie McNeil
Because every student at Enfield is a Star, the HSP sponsors the Star of the Week program. Each student is given the opportunity to have his picture and profile on the Star of the Week Bulletin Board. They also can make picture posters, sharing baby photos, family vacations, etc., with their classmates. The posters are displayed in their classroom during the week they are the Star. Students are also invited to have lunch with the Principal. Volunteers are needed each Friday to help with organizing the Star of the week Bulletin Board.
TALENT SHOW (Erdenheim Elementary only)
Co- Chair: Kristyn Roessler
Does Erdenheim have Talent? The HSP thinks so. Each year our children are able participate in the annual talent show, which is held in February. Volunteers are needed in planning, helping out with rehearsals and working the day of the show.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
Chair: Lisa Day
During this week, the HSP hosts a special luncheon for the faculty and staff. Volunteers are needed to help plan and organize the lunch. Volunteers are also needed that day to help set up and clean up after the luncheon.
VISITING AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR (aka COOKIES AND MILK NIGHT)
Chair: Hillary Chybinsky and Karen Naghski
The night before Author Day (a day when a children's Author comes to school to speak to the students) the children come to school in their pajamas to hear teachers read the author's books. The evening ends with cookies and milk in the cafeteria. Volunteers are needed to organize the event and on the night of the event to help with Set Up, Clean Up and the smooth operation of the evening.
